Schedule for Catholic Schools
St Benedict’s Primary school is a Roman Catholic School where we seek to promote the full and harmonious development of all aspects of the person of the pupil: intellectual, physical, cultural, moral, spiritual and emotional, including a living relationship with God and with other people. The school models and promotes a philosophy of life, inspired by belief in God and in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. St. Benedict’s provides Religious education for pupils in accordance with the doctrines, practices and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church and promotes the formation of the pupils in the Catholic Faith

Vision
Our vision guided by our Catholic ethos has much to offer to our wider pluralist community and society. In a spirit of hope, respect, inclusivity and social justice we are committed to a holistic education that is both broad and balanced. We encourage and practise inclusivity through striving to become a positive force in the local community; where children are encouraged and supported in living their lives to the full; where high standards are the goal in teaching and learning; where everybody is valued and treated with respect; where our national culture and identity is nourished; where diversity is recognised and celebrated and where respect for plurality of faiths is seen as integral to the daily routine of the school.
Through our daily work in St. Benedict’s we seek to be an effective school in which:

Through our daily work in St. Benedict’s we seek to be an effective school in which:
- The policies, practices and attitudes of the school are grounded in the values of its patronage and reflected in its ethos.
- A spirit of mutual respect and tolerance for difference is promoted within the school community and a sense of community is fostered between management, teachers, parents, pupils and the wider community.
- There is a unity of purpose in the school staff aimed at making the school a place of excellence in teaching and learning, in which high professional standards are maintained and where learning occurs in a safe and happy environment
- Skilled, motivated ethical teachers are encouraged to develop their personal and professional skills, competence, knowledge and talents through reflective practice.
- Ancillary staff in the school are highly valued and respected through recognition that their work makes a valued contribution to the process of education.
- The dignity and value of each individual child is recognised and celebrated by teachers who are sensitive to the needs and particular circumstances of all the pupils in their care.
- Personal recognition is considered central to the positive experience of each child to engender, in them a sense of belonging in the learning community that is their school.
- Mutual respect and support for one another is shared between parents and teachers as they seek to collaborate as partners, in leading the young people in whose education they play such a crucial role.
- The Code of Behaviour reflects the ethos and values promoted in the school, with an emphasis on inclusivity, forgiveness, reconciliation, new beginnings and hope.
- Diversity is recognised and celebrated.
- A holistic approach to education developing all aspects of the child: intellectual, physical, cultural, moral and spiritual features strongly in the daily routines of the school day
- Planning, assessment, policy implementation, on-going review processes and accountability are of the highest standard.
- Participation in extracurricular activities is strongly supported because such participation promotes positive physical and mental health outcomes, fosters integration, cooperation, reliability, and leadership in participants and therefore in the community
- Opportunities to build good self-esteem, manage anxiety and build resilience are highly valued.
- There is a clear understanding and appreciation of all curricula, guidelines, legislation and circulars which govern the work of the school and these are used as a quality framework against which to measure the performance of the school itself.
