History
History of St Benedict's National School.
St Benedict’s National School is a Catholic Co-educational school which was set up in 2006 as a response to the shortage of school places available in the existing schools in the Clonee/Ongar area of Dublin 15. The school was opened on 30th August 2006 with an enrolment of 58 pupils and a staff of five: Principal, 2 mainstream teachers and 2 language support teachers. St Benedict’s School was then accommodated in prefabs on the grounds of Mary Mother of Hope school.
On 29th August 2007, St Benedict’s school returned after the summer vacation with an enrolment of 120 pupils and a staff of 10: Principal, 4 mainstream teachers, 4 language support teachers and a learning support teacher. Accommodation was provided in Mary Mother of Hope Junior School. Our first special needs assistant was appointed in October 2007.
For the next two years we were accommodated in the prefabs which were previously occupied by Castaheany Educate Together in the grounds of Mary Mother of Hope National School. We had an enrolment of 286 pupils, and a staff of 18 teachers. We had two special needs assistants, a secretary and a caretaker. In September 2010 we had an enrolment of 372 pupils and appointed 3 new teachers.
We moved to our wonderful new permanent premises in Ongar on 1st November 2010 where we share a site with Castaheany Educate Together National School.
