History of St Benedicts N.S

St Benedict's is a Catholic Co-educational school which was set up in 2006 as a response to the shortage of school places available in the existing schools in the Clonee/Ongar area of Dublin 15. The school opened on the 30th August 2006 with an enrolment of 58 pupils and a staff of 5; Principal, 2 mainstream teachers and 2 language support teachers. St. Benedict's school was then accommodated in prefabs on the grounds of Mary Mother of Hope school.

On the 29th August 2007 St. Benedict's school returned after the Summer vacation with an enrolment of 120 pupils and a staff of 10; Principal, 4 mainstream teachers, 4 language support teachers and a learning support teacher and accommodation was provided in Mary Mother of Hope Junior School. Our first special needs assistant was appointed in October 2007.

For the school year 2008/2009 we were accommodated temporarily in the prefabs which were previously occupied by Castaheaney Educate Together in the grounds of Mary Mother of School N.S. We have an enrolment of 200 pupils presently and a staff of 14. We currently have 2 special needs assistants, a secretary and a caretaker. We have a projected enrolment for Sept 2010 of 280 pupils and will appoint 3 new teachers. It is envisaged that we will occupy our permanent premises in Ongar Dublin 15 in September 2010. There we will share a site with Castaheaney Educate Together. St Benedict's school in Ongar will be a 24 classroom building catering for classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. The school will have an integrated facility in conjunction with Fingal County Council. The state of the art school will provide facilities for the local community of Ongar and will provide a sports hall which will be a major asset to both the school and the Community.
